HDFC Mutual Fund Raises FIEM Industries Stake

HDFC Mutual Fund has raised its stake in FIEM Industries to 9.43% through open-market purchases. The move marks a clear rise from its earlier 7.07% stake and shows that the mutual fund has added a large number of FIEM Industries shares to its portfolio. The latest disclosure has drawn attention because HDFC Mutual Fund now sits close to the 10% level in the auto component company.

The mutual fund acquired 6,21,878 shares in the open market. After this purchase, its total share count rose from 18,59,492 shares to 24,81,370 shares. Its stake rose by 2.36 percentage points, from 7.07% to 9.43% of the paid-up equity share capital of FIEM Industries.

Deal Took Place on August 13

The latest acquisition took place on August 13, 2026. HDFC Asset Management Company Limited made the required disclosure to the National Stock Exchange of India and BSE Limited on August 17, 2026. The disclosure came under Regulation 29(2) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India, or SEBI, Takeover Regulations.

The company has a paid-up equity share capital of ₹26,31,96,600. This capital consists of 2,63,19,660 equity shares, each with a face value of ₹10. The latest deal did not alter the total equity capital of FIEM Industries. HDFC Mutual Fund also stated that none of its shares in the company were under encumbrance.

HDFC MF Was Already a Large Shareholder

The latest move is not the first time HDFC Mutual Fund has raised its exposure to FIEM Industries this year. On January 8, 2026, the fund had raised its stake from 5.06% to 7.07%. At that time, it bought 5,28,900 shares through open-market transactions. Its total share count then reached 18,59,492 shares.

The latest purchase takes that process one step further. From 5.06% at the start of the year to 9.43% in August, HDFC Mutual Fund has added a substantial amount of FIEM Industries shares in 2026. This suggests that the company has remained important to the fund’s portfolio over a period of several months.

The shares are spread across three HDFC schemes. These are HDFC Children’s Fund, HDFC Small Cap Fund and HDFC Transportation and Logistics Fund. This is important because the stake does not come from just one fund. Several schemes under the HDFC Mutual Fund umbrella have exposure to the company.

Why FIEM Industries Matters

FIEM Industries is an auto component company. It has a strong presence in automotive lighting and other vehicle parts. The company serves the vehicle sector, where demand is closely tied to the wider growth of two-wheelers, passenger vehicles and other automobiles.

The company also has a relationship with Ichikoh Industries of Japan. FIEM Industries and Ichikoh have a joint venture for the four-wheeler and two-wheeler lamp business. FIEM Industries has a 34% stake in that joint venture. The company has also signed a memorandum of understanding with Ichikoh for a strategic global alliance related to the two-wheeler automotive lighting business.

These areas give FIEM Industries a place within the wider auto component supply chain. For a large mutual fund, such a company can offer exposure to vehicle demand as well as the growth of the Indian auto parts market.

Recent Results Add More Context

The HDFC Mutual Fund move comes soon after FIEM Industries reported its results for the first quarter of FY27. The company posted a standalone net profit of ₹65.19 crore for the quarter ended June 30, 2026. This was a 16.31% rise from the same quarter a year earlier.

Sales also showed strong growth. Total sales rose 18.62% year on year to ₹769.90 crore from ₹649.07 crore in the same quarter of the previous year. The consolidated EBITDA margin stood at 13.50%. The automotive segment remained the main source of revenue growth.

These figures give some useful context to the HDFC Mutual Fund purchase. The stake increase does not prove that the fund acted only because of the latest quarterly result. Still, the rise in profit and sales shows that FIEM Industries had a strong start to FY27.

Stake Is Now Close to 10%

One of the most notable parts of the disclosure is the 9.43% stake itself. HDFC Mutual Fund is now only 0.57 percentage points away from a 10% holding in FIEM Industries.

A move close to this level matters because a large shareholder’s stake can attract greater market attention. Any future rise in the fund’s share count may also lead to fresh regulatory disclosures. For investors, this makes future changes in HDFC Mutual Fund’s FIEM Industries stake worth close attention.

It is also important to note that HDFC Mutual Fund is not part of the promoter group of FIEM Industries. The latest disclosure confirms that the buyer is a non-promoter shareholder. No warrants, convertible securities or other instruments that could provide shares were part of the deal.

What the Market May Read From the Move

A large mutual fund does not usually build a sizeable stake without a reason. The rise from 7.07% to 9.43% shows a stronger level of exposure to FIEM Industries. It may reflect the fund managers’ view on the company’s business outlook, valuation, future profit potential or position in the auto component sector.

At the same time, investors should not treat institutional purchases as a direct buy signal. A mutual fund may have a long-term view that differs from that of a retail investor. The fund may also have a different view of risk, valuation and portfolio allocation.

FIEM Industries’ share price has also seen notable movement over a longer period. Data available on August 18, 2026 showed a one-year return of about 15.17% on one market source, while the stock’s 52-week high and low were listed at ₹2,674.80 and ₹1,861.00, respectively. The same source showed a price-to-earnings ratio of about 22.73.

What Investors Should Watch Next

The next few quarters will be important for FIEM Industries. Investors will want to see whether the company can maintain sales growth and protect its profit margin. Demand from the auto sector, new orders, capacity use, customer concentration and cash flow will also matter.

HDFC Mutual Fund’s next shareholding disclosure can also provide a useful signal. If the fund raises its stake further, market participants may see it as continued confidence in the company. If the stake stays near 9.43% or falls, the picture may be different.

FIEM Industries also needs to manage the normal risks that come with the auto component business. A slowdown in vehicle demand can affect orders. Changes in raw material costs can affect margins. Large customers can also have a major effect on revenue.

A Significant Institutional Move

HDFC Mutual Fund’s rise to a 9.43% stake is clearly a major change in FIEM Industries’ shareholder profile. The fund added 6,21,878 shares and took its total share count to 24,81,370 shares. Its stake rose from 7.07% to 9.43%, while the company’s paid-up equity capital remained ₹26,31,96,600 across 2,63,19,660 shares.

The move also comes after a strong first quarter for FIEM Industries, with standalone net profit at ₹65.19 crore and sales at ₹769.90 crore. That combination makes the latest HDFC Mutual Fund purchase more notable, although it should not be treated as proof of future stock performance.

For now, the key number is 9.43%. HDFC Mutual Fund has built a sizeable position in FIEM Industries and now sits close to the 10% mark. The next disclosures, along with the company’s future results, should show whether this confidence remains strong.
