Milky Mist IPO Makes Strong Debut as Shares Surge Nearly 30%

Milky Mist Dairy Food made a strong debut on the Indian stock market on August 18, 2026. Shares of the dairy company opened at ₹181.50 on the National Stock Exchange (NSE). This was 29.6% above its IPO price of ₹140 per share. The sharp rise gave investors a strong return on the first day of trade and placed Milky Mist among the closely watched new listings of the day.

The company had already attracted strong interest before its market debut. Its initial public offering was worth about $163 million, and retail as well as non-institutional investors showed strong demand during the IPO process. That demand set a positive tone for the stock before its shares started trade on the exchanges.

Stock Opens Well Above IPO Price

The ₹181.50 opening price on the NSE was a major jump from the ₹140 IPO price. At that level, investors who received shares at the IPO price saw an immediate gain of ₹41.50 per share. In percentage terms, the gain stood at 29.6%.

The strong opening also showed that market demand was higher than the level seen during the IPO price discovery process. Investors had accepted the shares at ₹140, but the market placed a much higher value on them once trading began.

There was also a difference between early reports on the listing price. The Economic Times reported that Milky Mist shares listed at ₹165 on both the NSE and BSE, which was about 18% above the ₹140 issue price. Reuters later reported that the stock rose to ₹181.50 on the NSE, a 29.6% premium to the IPO price. These figures reflect different points in the stock’s debut session rather than a contradiction in the IPO price itself.

Strong Demand Before Listing

The positive debut did not come as a complete surprise. Milky Mist had already seen strong demand during its IPO. Reuters reported that the $163 million issue received strong interest from retail and non-institutional investors. The IPO was fully subscribed by the second day of its three-day bidding period.

By the end of the third and final day, the ₹1,553 crore IPO had received bids equal to about 56 times the shares on offer, according to the Economic Times. The high subscription level showed that a large number of investors wanted exposure to the company before its shares entered the wider market.

Such demand can often create strong expectations for a new stock. Investors may look at subscription levels, the grey market premium and the company’s business prospects before the listing. In Milky Mist’s case, these factors created a positive mood before the first day of trade.

Temasek-Backed Dairy Company

Milky Mist Dairy Food also attracted attention because of its connection with Temasek. The Singapore-based investment firm backed the company before its IPO. Reuters reported that a Temasek unit had bought a 5.16% stake through deals in April.

The Temasek connection gave the company another point of interest for investors. Large institutional investors can bring greater visibility to a business, although their presence alone does not guarantee future stock performance.

Before the IPO, Milky Mist had set a price band of ₹133 to ₹140 per share. At the upper end of the range, the company sought a valuation of about ₹107.78 billion, or around $1.13 billion.

The company also reduced the size of its IPO before launch. Reuters reported that the issue size was cut to ₹15.53 billion, or about $162.8 million, from an earlier plan of ₹20.35 billion. The change came after pre-listing deals that included the Temasek unit’s stake purchase.

Why Investors Paid Attention

Milky Mist operates in the dairy and packaged food space. The company has built its business around value-added dairy products rather than only basic liquid milk. Its product range includes items such as paneer, cheese, curd, butter, ghee, yogurt and ice cream.

This business model gives the company exposure to a large food market. Indian consumers have also seen a wider choice of packaged dairy products in recent years. Companies that can build strong brands and expand their product range may have room for growth.

However, a strong IPO debut does not mean that the stock will continue to rise at the same pace. The first day of trade often has a strong effect from investor demand and market sentiment. Future performance will depend on sales, profit, costs, debt, competition and the company’s ability to expand its business.

What the 29.6% Premium Means

The 29.6% premium is important because it shows how much higher the market price was compared with the IPO price at the reported NSE level. An investor who received one share at ₹140 would see a value of ₹181.50 at that level. The difference is ₹41.50 per share.

For investors who received a full IPO lot, the gain would depend on the number of shares allotted to them. The exact profit would also change if they sold at a different market price.

A listing gain can look attractive, but it is only one part of the investment story. The share price can move sharply after the first day. Investors who enter after the listing also do not receive the same benefit as those who received shares at the IPO price.

Strong Start, But Future Performance Matters

Milky Mist’s debut is clearly a positive start for the company in the public market. The stock opened well above its ₹140 IPO price, while strong demand during the offer period showed that investors had a high level of interest in the business.

The company now faces a different test. Before the listing, the focus was on whether investors would accept its IPO valuation. After the listing, the focus will shift toward business results and future growth.

Investors will watch revenue, profit margins, debt levels and expansion plans. They will also look at how Milky Mist competes with other established dairy brands. The company’s ability to turn investor interest into long-term business growth will be more important than its first-day gain.

A Strong Day for Milky Mist

The August 18 debut gave Milky Mist a strong start as a listed company. Its reported NSE price of ₹181.50 was 29.6% above the ₹140 IPO price. The stock had already received strong demand during the IPO, and that interest carried into its market debut.

For IPO investors, the debut offered a sizeable listing gain. For the company, however, the first day marks only the start of its life as a public stock. The next phase will depend on its financial results, business growth and ability to meet the expectations that came with its successful IPO.

Milky Mist has therefore started its stock market journey on a strong note. The nearly 30% rise has placed the company firmly in the market spotlight, but its long-term success will depend on what it delivers after the excitement of its debut settles.
