Bitcoin has moved back toward the $77,800 level as the crypto market waits for a major vote in the US Senate. The vote on the CLARITY Act is set for September 15, and its result could shape the future of crypto rules in the United States. At the same time, higher oil prices and a sharp rise in US Treasury yields have added pressure to risk assets.
Bitcoin had a stronger move earlier, but the rally has lost some force. Data from September 15 showed BTC near $77,460, while other market data placed the asset close to $77,800. The market remains focused on the area around $77,000 as a key short-term support level. A move below that zone could create more pressure, while a return above $79,000 to $80,000 could improve market mood.
The biggest event for crypto today is not only about Bitcoin. It is about US regulation. The Senate plans a procedural vote on the CLARITY Act, a major bill that aims to create clearer rules for digital assets. The bill needs 60 votes to move forward. Republicans hold 53 Senate seats, so support from at least seven Democrats or independents would be needed.
Why the CLARITY Act Matters
The CLARITY Act could give the US crypto sector a clearer legal structure. One of its main goals is to define how different digital assets should be treated and which US agencies should oversee them. The bill also covers rules for crypto exchanges, brokers and anti-money laundering standards.
For years, crypto companies have faced uncertainty over US rules. A lack of clear definitions has made it harder for businesses to know which assets fall under which regulator. A clear framework could reduce some of that uncertainty and make it easier for large financial firms to enter the sector.
The Senate vote is therefore important for more than just lawmakers. Crypto investors see the bill as a possible major step toward a more stable US market. If the bill moves ahead, it could improve confidence across the sector. If it fails to advance, the market could view that result as a setback for US crypto policy.
Democrats Push for More Changes
The path to the vote has not been easy. Senate Republicans released a revised version of the bill with about 126 major changes that address concerns raised by Democrats. The new text includes tougher rules tied to public officials and crypto profits.
The changes are an attempt to gain enough support for the bill. Yet disagreements remain. Democrats have raised concerns about ethics rules, while banks have also warned about parts of the legislation related to stablecoins.
Senate Democrats plan to present a counterproposal to the Republican offer. That creates another layer of uncertainty before the vote. The final result could depend on last-minute talks between both sides.
Senator Elizabeth Warren has also opposed the CLARITY Act. She has criticized the ethics provisions and called them too weak. Her position shows how difficult it may be for the bill to get enough Democratic support.
Bitcoin Feels the Macro Pressure
The CLARITY Act is not the only issue that matters for Bitcoin today. The wider financial market has also changed.
The US 10-year Treasury yield has moved above 5%. That is a major level and marks the highest point since 2023. The 30-year Treasury yield has also moved to about 5.37%. Higher bond yields can put pressure on assets such as Bitcoin because investors can earn more from government debt without taking the same level of market risk.
Oil prices have added another concern. Brent crude moved close to $110 as fears over energy supply in the Middle East increased. Higher oil prices can raise inflation pressure. That can make the Federal Reserve more cautious about interest-rate cuts or even raise expectations for higher rates.
For Bitcoin, this creates a difficult mix. Crypto often performs better when liquidity is strong and investors have a higher appetite for risk. Higher yields and higher oil prices can have the opposite effect.
The Federal Reserve Adds Another Risk
The crypto market is also focused on the Federal Reserve. Traders are watching both the next rate decision and the path for future rates.
Current market data shows strong expectations for a 25-basis-point Fed rate hike this week. The market is also watching the Fed’s voting pattern and its projections for future rates. Any signal of more rate hikes could put more pressure on Bitcoin and other risk assets.
This means Bitcoin faces two major US events within a short period. First comes the Senate vote on the CLARITY Act. Then comes the Federal Reserve decision.
A positive result on regulation could support crypto prices, while a more aggressive Fed stance could work in the opposite direction. This makes the next few sessions especially important for traders.
XRP Takes the Lead
Bitcoin is not the only major asset under the spotlight. XRP has shown stronger price action than Bitcoin and Ether.
XRP traded near $1.42 in the September 15 market data and was up about 5.88%. Another market snapshot also showed XRP above Bitcoin and Ether as traders focused on the Senate vote and the Federal Reserve.
XRP has gained attention because clearer US crypto rules could affect the wider market for digital assets. Investors have also watched XRP spot ETF flows closely.
On September 14, XRP spot ETFs recorded a total net inflow of $11.255 million, based on SoSoValue data reported on September 15. The Bitwise XRP ETF accounted for the full $11.255 million daily inflow.
That flow suggests that some investors continue to show interest in XRP despite the wider market uncertainty.
Solana Also Sees Strong ETF Demand
Solana has also attracted fresh capital. US Solana spot ETFs recorded a total net inflow of $11.0058 million on September 14, based on SoSoValue data. The Bitwise Solana Staking ETF had the largest single-day inflow at $7.1002 million.
Solana itself traded near $102.38 in the September 15 market data and was up about 2.79%. The numbers show that investor demand is not limited to Bitcoin.
The broader crypto market is therefore split between two forces. Institutional demand remains visible through ETF flows, while macro pressure from bond yields, oil and interest rates creates a more cautious mood.
Bitcoin Still Has Room to Move
Bitcoin’s short-term price structure remains important. Market data places the first major resistance area around $79,000 to $80,000. A move above $82,000 could open the door to a stronger recovery. On the downside, $77,000 is an important support area, while $75,000 to $76,000 is another key zone.
This does not mean that these levels will certainly hold. Crypto can move very fast, especially around major political, regulatory and economic events.
The recent pullback also comes after a strong August. Bitcoin had climbed above $80,000 before it lost some of that strength. The asset now needs a fresh catalyst to regain that upward momentum. The Senate vote may provide that catalyst, but the Federal Reserve could quickly change the market mood.
What Comes Next for Crypto
September 15 could become an important date for the US crypto market. The CLARITY Act vote may decide whether the legislation takes another major step toward a full Senate vote. A positive result could support the view that the US is close to a clearer crypto rulebook.
A failure to advance the bill could have the opposite effect. It could raise fresh doubts about when the US will create a full market structure for digital assets.
For Bitcoin, the situation is even more complex. Regulation offers a possible positive catalyst, but higher Treasury yields, oil prices and Fed policy create strong risks.
At around $77,800, Bitcoin sits at a point where both sides of the market have a strong case. Bulls can point to regulatory progress, ETF demand and institutional interest. Bears can point to high bond yields, inflation risks and the possibility of tighter monetary policy.
The next major move may depend on which force wins. For now, the crypto market has its eyes firmly on Washington. The CLARITY Act vote, followed by the Federal Reserve decision, could set the tone for Bitcoin and the wider digital asset market in the days ahead.
